The dihedral angles between the phenyl ring and the naphthalene part of the chromanone unit in the two independent molecules of the title compound, C~20~H~14~O~2~, are 56.17 (4) and 55.62 (7)°. The molecular structure is stabilized by weak intramolecular C—H...O interactions and the crystal packing is stabilized by weak C—H...π interactions.
