✦ Synopsis

The ability of the hormonally active vitamin D metabolite, Ia,25-dihydroxyvitamin Dj, to affect cell growth, morphology and fibronectin production has been examined using the MG-63 human osteosarcoma cell line. Hormone treatment reduced cell growth rate, saturation density and ['Hlthymidine incorporation. Inhibition was specific for la,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 relative to other vitamin D metabolites (la,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 > 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 > 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3> D3), antagonized by high concentra-

## Abstract The differentiating and antitumor activities of 1α,25‐dihydroxyvitamin D~3~ (1α,25(OH)~2~D~3~) in vitro and 1α‐hydroxyvitamin D~3~ (1α(OH)D~3~) in vivo were studied with a human osteosarcoma cell line (OST strain). ## Abstract In this article we show that 1α,25‐dihydroxyvitamin D~3~ (1α,25(OH)~2~D~3~) stimulates the activity of the class IA phosphatidylinositol 3‐kinase PI3Kα and its downstream target Akt in HL60, U937 and THP‐1 myeloid leukaemic cell lines. ## Abstract In a recent study, we investigated the metabolism of 1α,25‐dihydroxy‐20‐epi‐vitamin D~3~ (1α,25(OH)~2~‐20‐epi‐D~3~), a potent synthetic vitamin D~3~ analog in the isolated perfused rat kidney and proposed that the enhanced biological activity of 1α,25(OH)~2~‐20‐epi‐D~3~ is in part due t
