## Abstract ^13^C and ^19^F NMR spectra of a series of mesogenic compounds, __(S)__β4β__n__βoctyloxyβfluorobiphenylβ4β²βyl fluoroβ4β(2βfluoroβoctanoyloxy)benzoates, were determined in solution. The effect of fluoro substitution in various positions on the ^13^C and ^19^F chemical shifts was studied.
