✦ Synopsis
Electric develops home-use fuel cell cogeneration system
Osaka-based Matsushita Electric Industrialbest known for its Panasonic consumer electronics and digital communications products -has developed a home-use fuel cell cogeneration system offering excellent durability, 35% power generating efficiency and quiet operation. The company aims to commercialize the system by March 2005, after field-testing at its research facility.
In January 2000 Matsushita announced its development of a compact 1.5 kWe residential PEM fuel cell generation system. For the past year, an operating prototype has been exhibited at the Panasonic Center in Tokyo.
The latest system offers MEAs designed to limit output voltage fluctuation per 1000 h to under 3 mV for exceptional durability, and quiet (44 dB) operation, equivalent to an airconditioning outdoor unit, to allow use in densely populated residential areas and at night.
The field testing of the home-use fuel cogeneration system will be carried out in Matsushita's two-storey-house research facility in Osaka. Control methods and efficiency will be evaluated under various real-life scenarios. Research and suggestions on new ideas that employ both fuel cell cogeneration systems and network systems will be tested, and reducing the energy consumption of products.
