β¦ Synopsis
The increased use of graphites has led to the requirements for a graphitic thermal conductivity and diffusivity standard. Candidate graphites were screened on the basis of criteria such as reproducibility, isotropy, availability, and heating test results. Samples of two selected graphites -AXM-5Ql and RVD -were obtained from commercial sources, examined, described, characterized and machined. Independent measurements of thermal conductivity and diffusivity were conducted at three participating laboratories; the measurement results were examined, evaluated, and compared with literature data on similar graphites. Both AXM-5Ql and RVD graphites, when suitably characterized and selected, show promise of use as a high temperature thermophysical property measurement standard.
- Graph& thermal expansion reference for high temperatures P. S. Gaal (Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Astronudear Laboratory, Materials Department, P.O. Box 10864, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). The design requirements of the aerospace and high temperature nuclear reactor industries necessitate reliable thermal expansion data for graphite and other carbonaceous materials. Currently there are no accepted standards or reference materials which can be used
