✦ Synopsis

The 33C NhfR spectra of carbonaceous residue deposited on silica-supported rotheniurn catalysts during met&m&ion reveal the presence of at least three species. Based on chemical shifts, spin-spin relaxation times, and chemical treatment of the sampIes, these species are interpreted as carbides adsorbed on ruthenium, reactive carbon bonded to silicon, and uzreactive aggregates.
