✦ Synopsis

Two well-known polysaccharides, (133)-activated the limulus factor G! and that not B-D-glucan and mannan, are major Structural only the conidia form but also the filamencomponents of the fungus cell wall. The G tous form of Aspergillus fumigatus reacted test is a direct method to measure (1+3)$-with factor G. Various Candida spp. (C. D-glucan using a (1 +3)-p-D-glucan-sensitive paraspilosis, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. component, factor G, fractionated from the krusei) Saccharomyces cerevisiae, limulus lysate. The concentration of (1 -3)-

Rhodotorula rubra, Trichosporon beigelii, P-D-glucan in culture Supernatants of Canand A. fumigafus released soluble (1 +3)-pdida albicans increased to 1,390.0 p g h l at 0-glucan into their culture supernatants, but 24 hours. The concentration of mannan also C. neoformans and Cunninghamella increased parallel with fungal growth. How-bertholletiae showed only a small reaction ever, after digestion of Supernatants with to the G test during their culture. Our reendo-(1 -+3)-p-D-glucanase, the reactivity to sults indicate that the G test is a good factor G disappeared, although titers of anti-method for serodiagnosis of deep mycosis mannan monoclonal antibody-based latex and also as a screening tool for contamiagglutination were unchanged. Our study nation of medical devices, drugs, and exdemonstrated that cell suspensions of both perimental materials with (1 3 3 ) -

Extensive surveys for the effects of various P-o&cans on the coagulation cascade in horseshoe crab amebocyte lysates showed that low-mol-wt-(1 + 3)-p-o-glucans and laminaran oligosaccharides inhibit the activation of a limulus coagulation factor G by high-mol-wt-(1 + 3)+?-o-glucans. The relationship between the conformation of (1----3)-beta-D-glucans in gel or hydrated form and the stimulation of two types of biological responses, namely, activation of coagulation Factor G from limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) and host-mediated antitumor activity was examined. Both types were act
