✦ Synopsis

Overview: Peter Tremayne is the alias used by Celtic scholar Peter Berresford Ellis (b. 1943) for his mystery and weird fiction. The author of over sixty books, Tremayne is currently best known for his series of historical mystery novels featuring Sister Fidelma, set in 7th century Ireland. Fidelma is both an Irish princess and a qualified dΓ‘laigh, or advocate, of the law courts of Ireland under the ancient Brehon Law system. Although set in medieval Ireland these books have, in one respect, a curiously contemporary feel. As Publishers Weekly said in its review or the first Fidelma novel, "in Tremayne's rendering (the period) is a golden age of enlightenment and of total equality for women." The series thus appeals to many besides history and mystery buffs.
