✦ Synopsis

Chars, prepared by pyrolysis of prune pits at I or lS"C/min to 500, 700 or 9OO"C, were subsequently gasified by CO, at 900Β°C. Pyrolysis conditions did not significantly affect the porosity developed for a given mass loss due specifically to gasification reactions, i.e. excluding additional pyrolytic losses.

Commercial gasification processes are usually operated at high pressure for economic considerations. However, there is very little information available on the influence of pressure on the carbonization of coal under conditions relevant to high pressure fixed bed gasifiers. The structure and carbonization behavior of the pitches from the products of gas-coking coal hydrogenation performed at 420Β°C and 455Β°C in a continuous bench scale unit were estimated. The pitches, prepared as residues from vacuum distillation of purified hydrogenation products, were characterized b
