The residual resistance of an imperfect metal, though commonly obtained from a transport equation, "appears as the imaginary term in the dispersion relation for electrons in the (perturbed) lattice. This dispersion theory will be sketched for the special case that two atomic species, A and B, are randomly distributed in an otherwise perfect lattice, in concentrations CA and C~. The basic results are:

  1. The stationary states closely resemble Bloch waves; in two "cells" occupied by A-atoms the wave function differs mainly by a phase factor; the same holds for B-cells.
