The purpose of this paper is to present some possibilities of fault detection of a filter. The study is based on process measurements in a chemical plant. By using online measurements the characteristic features of normal and damaged filters are studied and the degradation model of the filter is presented. The possibilities of online fault diagnosis are introduced. The reasons for filter damage and how this can be avoided are also introduced.
It is shown that with some changes in the construction of the filter its operational lifetime can he increased. Some preliminary results of off-line fault diagnosis are presented.
