✦ Synopsis

12 Refractories/ceramics (properties, production, applications) In a bench-scale bubbl.ing fluidized bed coal combustor experiments were performed with porous alumina, activated bauxite and nonporous quartz sand as bed material.

Different coals were used as fuel and the total NO,, CO*, CO and Or in the flue gas were measured. Compared to the runs with quartz sand, that did not affect NO,, the porous alumina decreased the NO, emission, while activated increased it, and in general with higher concentrations of Or in the flue gas the NO, emission increased.
