β¦ Synopsis
Lise is a young female, 19 years of age, living on the colony planet of Varada. She is a Novo Homonid, or Novonid -- a genetically engineered and artificially-bred humanoid. Hairless and green-skinned to feed off sunlight, Novonids were created by humans to be enslaved as workers in the pomma fields. Now as their numbers increase, Novonids are brought into Varadan cities for menial work.
Lise lives with her mother Rayla and stepfather Grott in poverty within the Green Zone, a ghetto set aside for her kind. There she falls in love with Tagg, a Novonid youth who aspires to be an artist.
One day Thom, a wealthy white man, befriends Lise. He claims to desire freedom for her kind. Are his intentions honorable? How will their friendship impact her life with other Novonids?
In the meantime, others in the Zone are spurred by a renegade Novonid named Mott to plan a Green Strike to demand better living conditions.
Lise picks up where The Lost Colony (Volume V of the Earthbound Series) ends, with different characters and a new setting.
